Photos in County News!

Ladies we have something to live up to!

I sent an e mail to the editor of County News to thank her for putting in so many of our gorgeous wedding dress photos. Here is her reply:

Hi Sparks -  thank you for your email, so nice to get feed back!   I will await your next contribution with interest.

Now.... is this a challenge? Our next contribution! It will have to be something rather special.... but I believe we are up to the mark! Hmm.... looking at the programme of forthcoming events .....

County Walk in Milborne Port

Jan, Marguerite, Barbara and I went over to Milborne Port for a lovely afternoon walk with W.I. members from all over Somerset - 40 in total. After a pub lunch we enjoyed a two and a half hour walk in the surroundings of Milborne Port - through a gorgeous field and copse which was brim full of cowslips, primroses, wild thyme, ground ivy, violets, red campions and even a few bluebells. On the way back we made our way along a river and at the top of the adjoining hill there were three or four cows, silhouetted against the blue sky. The idyllic English countryside! What a perfect shot for the Milk Mission competition (see previous post).... unfortunately I had left my camera at home, so you'll just have to use your imagination!
Once back in Milborne Port we were rewarded by a welcome cup of tea (or two) and the most scrumptious lemon cake! ( and a piece of coconut cake, too - but who's counting?)

Can we help to save British Milk?

Mission Milk Logo
In the April edition of County News the Mission Milk campaign is mentioned - what we can do right now is to look out for the Red Tractor logo with the Union Flag - this shows that the product has been farmed, processed and packed in the UK. Look out for the logo on all dairy products you buy - make a list of the ones which don't carry the logo and send it to whereistheredtractor@nfu.org.uk (or bring the list to our next meeting and we'll send them off together). The NFU will contact the retailers & manufacturers.

Photographers amongst you will be interested in the competition - send a photo that captures how dairy cows contribute to the unique look of our countryside to jon.chinery@nfu.org.uk The winner will receive £250 of Farm Stay vouchers. closing date 30th June

and, of course we can drink more British milk, use more British butter and cheese....

have a look at the campaigns section of the WI website for more details about Mission Milk

April meeting & Community Coffee morning

Monday 18th April in the Memorial Hall - come along for a lovely cup of coffee or tea, some scrummy cake and enjoy the delightful company. An ideal way to meet friends and spend some time on Monday morning!

We had another very interesting and social meeting last night! Did you know that Bristol Water produces the best tasting water? (according to a recent taste test carried out in London) and is of a higher quality with fewer impurities than many brands of bottled water? Drink tap water! Put a jug full in the fridge for an hour - it will taste great and be chilled as well! Have a look at our 'Previous Meetings' page for photos & some more information.

Monday 11th April - Chew Valley Lake

We're looking forward to another sociable evening on Monday!
All you need to bring this time is a photograph or picture of water... some connection with water, however tenuous! We will display them all and have a chance to look during our refreshments, and find out who, what  and where the photos were taken - and perhaps why?

For May's meeting: don't forget to look at  www.thewi.org.uk/resolutions where you can read more information about our resolutions. There is some information in your copy of WI Life magazine.

The resolutions this year will affect us all, and I think it will be difficult to choose, so we need everyone to think carefully and come in May well prepared.
