A kind message from our advisor

Laughter is the best medicine!

Last night's Group Meeting was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present! The hall was warm and looked lovely with the gorgeous flowers and it was full of WI ladies. The speaker gave us a fascinating virtual tour around the wonderful buildings in Frome, with a brief glimpse of the history, describing how, simply by wandering down certain streets, you can easily imagine what it was like to live in the past. I'm sure we shall all stop to look around much more the next time we walk in Frome.
Thank you very much to our lovely Leigh on Mendip members, so many of whom came along to help and participate in every aspect of the evening: from wearing purple, leading the singing of Jerusalem, setting up and clearing away and, above all to making the entertainment such a lot of fun! From where I was standing, everyone in the room was laughing and having a great time, - so a big thank you to you all for joining in so readily.
Incidentally, a quick 'google' of purple reveals:
As a personality color purple, you are a generous giver, asking for little in return except friendship.
Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind ...

Perhaps there was a serious element to that poem?

Village Quiz

A really good evening organised by the Hall Committee! The hall was full of teams, trying their best to find the correct answer in time! Quite a few WI members joined in, 'though only four of us representing the WI. We called our team 'Inspiration', which was quite relevant when you remember that we are "Inspiring Women"!
Sue V, Jan P, Caroline and I did our best and managed a half decent score, ending up around mid way - miles away from the Easter Eggs, last place prize!

Two dates to keep free!

Sunday 28 April, 2.30 pm
Women Walk The World
To celebrate and raise awareness of  the Associated Country Women of the World.  Women all over the world will be walking together.

Our walk will be the Leigh on Mendip access walk; we'll start at the Memorial Hall at 2.30 (where you can pick up a map) and end up there for tea and cakes!

Bring your family and friends!

Second date to reserve  is Saturday 11 May, when we are planning a trip to Weymouth: a day on the beach? Or indulge in a spot of crazy golf? Look at the sand sculptures? Sample the delights of an excellent fish restaurant. Take a trip on the land train ? Above all, have some fun! (And sun)

Opportunity seized once more!

As usual we discover on Monday morning after the village clean up: the rubbish pile has grown! Opportunist spring cleaners have added more debris for Mendip to collect.

Saturday 16 March 2013

Thank you!

Thank you very much indeed to everyone for their hard work in adverse conditions today. Some folk checked the weather forecast and decided to go out and clear during the sunny morning. Others, wrapped in waterproofs and plenty of layers, came along to brave the rain and cold weather during the afternoon.
Everyone worked hard, picked up lots of litter - cardboard coffee cups seem to have been the most prevalent item this year - and ended up back at the Memorial Hall for some lovely cake, a hot drink and a chat! (Leaving the wet stuff in the entrance!)
This year we didn't pick up any bricks or rubble, only litter, so the pile for Mendip to collect on Monday is slightly smaller than last year.

Village Clean Up Day - this Saturday!

It's coming! A bright, shiny new clean village!
Well, that is providing plenty of folk turn out on Saturday to lend a hand!

We have all of the arrangements in place - bin bags, some litter pickers to avoid bending down and tea and cakes organised for the  'après clean' session in the Memorial Hall.

Please tell your friends and neighbours and come to the hall at 2 pm with your gloves, ready to help.

Mad March hares?

Unfortunately, our poor speaker, Gill, was taken ill and could not attend yesterday's meeting. We all wish her a speedy recovery.

We spent the time coming up with ideas for a May outing - the favourite being a day trip to Weymouth on Saturday 11 May, possibly on the train? I shall look into the costs involved. Other ideas were to go to Sidmouth and visit the Donkey Sanctuary, or the Shoe Museum in Street....
(Later, the same day! I've looked at rail fares and it would really be much cheaper, of course, if we do some car sharing. Shame, as I think quite a few of us were hankering after the memory of a childhood trip on the train to the sea side!)

Also, we agreed that a simple banner with our name would be ideal, created from as much recycled green and white or cream cotton fabric as possible. At next month's meeting we'll cut out the letters (from templates) ready for them to be sewn (by machine) by willing volunteers! Please let me know if you have (or perhaps if you find an appropriate duvet cover in a charity shop) any fabric you can bring. Also, if you have some fairly strong fabric, heavy duty material we could use to make the backing.

Then, we read some poems, and standards dropped! There was much laughter, some spitting (yes!) and lots more laughter. It really was very funny!

Here is the layout for the bags we are planning to sell at the fair. What do you think? I've chosen dark green this time. Please let me know if you approve!
Check your email tomorrow for more details.

Buckland Dinham event is cancelled!

Unfortunately the singing event at Buckland Dinham has been cancelled because the speaker ( or choir master!) is unwell.

Next lunch: Friday 5 April

Six of us went over to The George at Nunney for a delightful lunchtime! The service and food were excellent! Next time is just after Easter, 5 April.
