Our meeting in June came
just a few days after the National AGM which had been screened live for the
first time in the Memorial Hall. Everyone agreed this had been a great success. Thanks were given to Caroline for organising it and to
everyone who provided cakes or helped in any other way.
Mary gave us a brief report
on her attendance in London but was planning a fuller one on the blog as soon
as she had time. She did highlight the conflict and disappointment caused by
the confusing wording of the resolution which meant that, although the
delegates agreed with the ethos behind it, they could not vote on it in its
current form. On a more positive note it
had been an enjoyable day with some good speakers and a rare chance to share a
venue with the Queen and other members of the Royal Family.
Still on a royal theme, Jane
told us about her and Caroline’s visit to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party
which they both thoroughly enjoyed; pictures here on the blog! For all other
business matters see the minutes.
Our speaker was an education
volunteer from the RNLI. He gave us a version of the talk he mainly gives to
school children and included some useful information and question sheets which highlighted
both the hazards present on our beaches and the work the RNLI do to address
these and keep people safe.
Our next meeting will be on
Monday 13th July at 7.30 with a talk on Palestine which will be open
to guests, both male and female.
